Environmental assessment
A dashboard for assessing the exposure of a portfolio of sites to climate and environmental risks: future climate, hazards, water restrictions, protected areas, sensitivity of the surroundings.
What the dashboard combines
For each site, an overall reading of the pressure that climate and the surrounding environment put on the activity.
- Future climate
- Temperatures, extreme heat, rainfall and soil dryness, for the reference period and then for 2030, 2050 and 2100.
- Hazards
- River flooding, run-off, rising groundwater and coastal flooding; clay shrink-swell; earthquakes; ground movement; wildfires; polluted soils.
- Water
- Restrictions during droughts, with their history.
- Protected areas
- Natura 2000 sites, ZNIEFF natural areas, biotope protection orders and other protection zonings.
- Environmental sensitivity
- Water, soils and neighbourhood within an analysis radius around the site.
From a single site to the whole portfolio
A record for each site
Climate indicators at the four time horizons, hazard zones, protected areas and risk levels, with a written interpretation.
A risk matrix
For each hazard, the potential impact on the activity is crossed with its projected change. Levels can be adjusted to the activity.
An adaptation plan
A roadmap from the immediate to the long term, and an action sheet for each hazard.
A comparison tool
Up to six sites side by side: table of indicators, risk levels and charts.
A grouped analysis
By type of facility, a risk index ranks the sites so you know where to look first.
Report and exports
Report and high-definition maps for printing, tables to open in a spreadsheet or a GIS.
What it is for
The dashboard gives a first reading, site by site, of the pressure that climate change and the environment put on an activity. It helps rank sites, prepare an adaptation plan and document the assessment of physical climate risks expected under the European sustainability framework.
An interactive tutorial helps users get started, and the calculation method is explained in the tool.
What it does not tell you
- The values show a trend, not a forecast.
- A local assessment may be more precise than an overall reading.
- Risk levels should be refined with the people who operate the site.
Assess your own sites
Send us a few addresses: we will show you the site record and the comparison the dashboard produces.
